A Good Little Soldier

Stéphane Brizé has spent the past decade making a loose cycle of films about work and its costs, most of them with Vincent Lindon: The Measure of a Man, which won Lindon Best Actor at Cannes in 2015, then At War and Another World. A Good Little Soldier is his eleventh feature and his sixth with Lindon, and it premiered in the main competition at Venice in September 2026, where Brizé and his co-writers Coralie Amedeo and Olivier Gorce won Best Screenplay.

This time the centre of the film belongs to Alba Rohrwacher, playing Carla, an executive newly recruited to run human resources at a large insurance company. Lindon, David Talbot and Sharif Andoura, the last as the company's appointed happiness coach, fill out the firm. Antoine Héberlé's photography keeps to the open-plan floors and glass meeting rooms of Paris and the Île-de-France, and the drama is carried by the language of corporate process — objectives, restructurings, wellbeing initiatives — delivered in the flat, reasonable tone that Brizé has long treated as the real register of institutional violence.

Reviews out of Venice were strong, 92% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing, with much of the attention on Rohrwacher. Gaumont opens it in French cinemas in November 2026. It sits naturally beside the Dardennes' Two Days, One Night and Laurent Cantet's Human Resources in the French-language tradition of cinema that takes the office seriously as a moral arena.
