NAZA

Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor were two of the four members of the Israeli–Palestinian collective behind No Other Land, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2025. NAZA is their next film and a British production: made with The Guardian and James Wilson's JW Films, and executive produced by Jonathan Glazer. It was added to the Venice main competition only weeks before the festival, the sole documentary in the line-up, and took the Special Jury Prize in September 2026.

The method is stark. Across three years Abraham and Szor recorded conversations with twenty-four soldiers and intelligence officers, filmed at night on Tel Aviv rooftops; the speakers are dark shapes against the city lights, their voices altered. The subject is the machinery of targeting in Gaza — automated systems, phone surveillance, and the numerical value attached to each strike, which gives the film its title, from the Hebrew military term for collateral damage. Szor shot the film herself, and the design keeps attention on testimony rather than on imagery of the war.

Its reception was immediate and polarised along predictable lines. Critics were close to unanimous — 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 96 — while the Israeli government and military rejected the film's allegations and ministers proposed action against its directors. MK2 is releasing it theatrically, after which The Guardian will stream it free worldwide. It belongs with 20 Days in Mariupol and No Other Land in a recent strand of European-backed documentary that treats first-hand witness as the whole point.
