Nina Roza

Geneviève Dulude-De Celles won the Crystal Bear at the Berlinale in 2019 with A Colony, her first feature, and returned to the festival in 2026 in the main competition, where Nina Roza took the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay. It is a Belgian-Bulgarian-Italian-Canadian co-production, and the multiplicity of that list is not incidental — the film is about what happens when the international art market notices somewhere it had not been looking.

Galin Stoev plays Mihail, an expert dispatched to rural Bulgaria to assess the paintings of an eight-year-old girl whose work has gone viral. He left the country three decades ago; the assignment puts him back in a landscape and a language he had settled his accounts with. Sofia Stanina plays Nina, and Chiara Caselli appears as the collector's representative, with the valuation gradually turning into a question about who the child's work belongs to.

The screenplay prize was well placed: the film's real subject is how quickly the vocabulary of authenticity becomes the vocabulary of price, and it makes that argument through dialogue rather than through incident. Reviewers in Berlin noted how carefully it avoids making either the family or the market into villains.
