On a small Italian island, a shy local is hired to deliver mail to one client only — the exiled Chilean poet Pablo Neruda — and slowly learns, through metaphor and Neruda's patient company, how to court the woman he loves. Troisi, gravely ill during filming and dead the day after it wrapped, turns the role into one of Italian cinema's most moving final performances.
