In a Stockholm suburb in 1982, a bullied and lonely 12-year-old boy named Oskar befriends Eli, the mysterious girl who has just moved in next door. As a series of brutal murders shakes the neighbourhood, Oskar slowly discovers that Eli is a vampire who has survived for centuries, and the two form an unlikely and deeply tender bond.
