Yorkshire, 1974. A young crime reporter named Eddie Dunford returns home to cover the disappearance of a schoolgirl — the latest in a pattern that the local police seem weirdly uninterested in solving. The first of Channel 4's Red Riding trilogy, adapted from David Peace's novels, is a slow, rain-soaked descent into a pre-Thatcher England of corrupt cops, property developers, and violence so thick the fog can't disguise it.
