Alice and Steve
Alice's best friend Steve has started dating her twenty-six-year-old daughter. Alice is about to lose both of them at once, and sets out to end the relationship — only to find Steve has anticipated every move she has.
About
Sophie Goodhart's Disney+ comedy won Best Series at Canneseries in April 2026, along with the Special Interpretation Award for its ensemble — a double that the festival hands out rarely and that reflected how much of this show is carried by performance.
Nicola Walker plays Alice, whose closest friendship, with Steve, has survived everything except Steve starting a relationship with her twenty-six-year-old daughter Izzy. Jemaine Clement plays Steve as a man entirely aware of how the situation looks and unwilling to concede the point; Yali Topol Margalith is Izzy, who has her own view of being fought over. Across six half-hours, Alice's campaign to break them up meets a defence that has been thinking several moves ahead.
Walker has spent a decade being British television's most reliable dramatic lead, in Unforgotten and Last Tango in Halifax, and the pleasure here is watching that precision applied to farce. The series belongs to the strain of British comedy — Catastrophe, Fleabag — where the jokes and the emotional damage are the same material, and it is considerably sharper than its premise suggests.
