All or Nothing: Manchester City

All or Nothing: Manchester City launched on Prime Video in August 2018, the first football entry in Amazon's All or Nothing strand, which had begun with American football. It was produced by Spain's Mediapro and directed by the Catalan filmmaker Manuel Huerga, best known for the political drama Salvador (2006), and it was nominated for a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Documentary Series.

The series follows the 2017–18 season, Pep Guardiola's second in charge, across eight episodes of around fifty minutes, narrated by Ben Kingsley. Its selling point was access that English football had never granted a camera: Guardiola's half-time team talks, the medical room, contract meetings, and the rhythms of a training ground run with obsessive precision. Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and the young assistant coach Mikel Arteta are among the most vivid presences.

Made with the club's full cooperation, it is closer to a celebration than an investigation, and it was criticised at the time for its polish. Its value lies elsewhere: as the clearest record of Guardiola explaining his football to his players, and as the model for dozens of club series that followed. It now makes a revealing pair with A Beautiful Obsession, which returns to the same dressing room nearly a decade later, and with Take the Ball, Pass the Ball, which shows the Barcelona team where Guardiola's methods were formed.
