Stefano Sollima's ZeroZeroZero launched on Sky Atlantic and Amazon Prime Video in early 2020 across eight episodes and won the Nastro d'Argento (the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists' annual prize) for Best Miniseries at the 2020 ceremony. It was widely treated alongside Sollima's earlier Suburra series and feature work as the most accomplished example of Italian-led international crime production of the late 2010s.

The series is adapted from Roberto Saviano's 2013 non-fiction book of the same name, Saviano, the Naples-born investigative journalist who had previously written Gomorrah in 2006 and lived under permanent police protection since the publication of that book, contributed extensively to the screenplay development. The Saviano-Sollima collaboration extended across the parallel Gomorrah television series (which Sollima had co-developed) and shaped the broader Italian-language crime-television catalogue of the 2010s and 2020s.

The cast across three continents is structurally unusual: Andrea Riseborough, Dane DeHaan and Gabriel Byrne in the American-Louisiana storyline; Adriano Chiaramida and the Italian ensemble in the Calabrian 'Ndrangheta storyline; and Harold Torres and Noé Hernández in the Mexican-Sinaloa storyline. The eight episodes are shot in English, Italian, Spanish and Arabic in approximately equal measure. Cinematography is by Romain Lacourbas. The series was shot across six countries (Italy, Mexico, the United States, Morocco, Senegal and France) over a fifteen-month production schedule, one of the most logistically complex Italian productions of the past two decades.
