Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger

Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern are the English duo behind Shut Up and Play the Hits, their film of LCD Soundsystem's farewell, and Meet Me in the Bathroom, a history of the New York rock scene of the early 2000s. For Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger they are working from a script by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders and the writer-director of Locke. Produced by Magna Studios and presented by Sony Music Vision, the film had its world premiere out of competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on 5 September 2026, and opened in cinemas and IMAX four days later.

Its subject is the 2025 reunion tour, the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher had shared a stage since the band came apart. The directors build the film from rehearsal-room footage, backstage material and the concerts themselves. The spine is an interview: the brothers together in one room, answering questions side by side for the first time in more than fifteen years. What the film is after is less the mechanics of the reconciliation than the texture of two men in their fifties rediscovering how to be in a band.

Critics were warm. Rotten Tomatoes counts 97% positive reviews and Metacritic scores it 81. Peter Bradshaw in The Guardian gave it four stars and likened the Gallaghers to a great comic double act; The Hollywood Reporter noted that anyone hoping for inside dirt on the feud would go home empty-handed. That restraint is the point. It is a celebration rather than an investigation, and it played to large audiences, passing eleven million dollars worldwide within its first fortnight.
