Snabba Cash

Snabba Cash is a two-season Netflix series produced by SF Studios and FLX, premiering globally in April 2021 and returning for a second season in September 2022. It revisits the world of Jens Lapidus's 2006 novel Snabba cash, which had already been adapted into a successful Swedish film trilogy beginning in 2010 and into a long history of journalism on Stockholm's organised-crime economy, but recasts the material for a contemporary moment of widening inequality, escalating gun violence and rapid suburban transformation. Jens Jonsson and Tova Magnusson directed across the run, with Magnusson taking the bulk of the second season.

Evin Ahmad plays Leya, a single-mother software entrepreneur pitching a young company through Stockholm's accelerator and venture-capital circuit; Alexander Abdallah plays Salim, the brother of Leya's late partner, now an enforcer in a gang built out of one of the city's peripheral suburbs; and Ali Alarik plays a teenage neighbour to that gang's territory pulled gradually further inside it. The series is shot largely on location in Stockholm and its outer suburbs and uses a contemporary score that combines original composition with tracks from the Swedish drill scene, an aesthetic decision that pulled the show into broader cultural conversation about the lived realities of the territories it portrays.

The series became one of Netflix's most-viewed non-English-language launches of 2021 and contributed to a wider critical re-evaluation of Lapidus's source material. Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Dagens Nyheter all noted the unusual willingness of the show to centre its lead trio in three different Stockholms.
