Series
Unorthodox
Loosely based on Deborah Feldman's 2012 memoir, this four-part miniseries follows Esther 'Esty' Shapiro, a young woman who flees her ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to start a new life in Berlin. The series interweaves her past — an arranged marriage, the stifling constraints of her community — with her tentative reinvention in the present, told largely in Yiddish.
