Young Sherlock

Matthew Parkhill's Young Sherlock launched on Amazon Prime Video in early 2026 across eight episodes and is the most prominent contemporary screen treatment of Arthur Conan Doyle's properties since Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' BBC series Sherlock ran from 2010 to 2017. The Amazon series was developed by Parkhill in partnership with Conan Doyle Estate Limited and was the result of a multi-year rights negotiation that opened access to substantially more pre-canonical Holmes material than had been available to previous adaptations.

The series is loosely based on Andy Lane's Young Sherlock Holmes novel cycle (eight published novels between 2010 and 2015 from Macmillan Children's Books), although the screenplay credit is to Parkhill alone. Lane's novel cycle had been authorised by the Conan Doyle estate and is one of the few young-Holmes properties to bear that imprimatur, alongside the earlier Barry Levinson feature Young Sherlock Holmes (1985, which the Amazon series deliberately avoids referencing).

The cast is led by the breakthrough screen performance of Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the title role, Fiennes Tiffin had previously appeared in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) as the young Tom Riddle, and in the After film series; this is his first major lead role in a serialised production. The supporting cast pairs Fiennes Tiffin with Joely Richardson, Stephen Dillane and Charlotte Spencer in the central adult roles. Parkhill (the British director of Dot the i (2003) and the FX series Tyrant) directs four of the eight episodes himself; the others are directed by Lisa Mulcahy and Anya Adams.
