About

The Sandhamn Murders (Morden i Sandhamn) is the most enduring Swedish crime franchise of the streaming era after the Beck films. Adapted from Viveca Sten's twelve-novel series first published in 2008, the television version premiered on TV4 in December 2010 and has continued in near-annual runs ever since, with an eleventh series broadcast in 2025. The episodes are formatted as feature-length installments, two per season, and the production has remained with TV4 and the Swedish independent producer FLX across the run. Mikael Marcimain directed the first installments and the series' visual grammar has been preserved by successive directors, including Lisa Farzaneh and Niklas Hjulström.

Alexandra Rapaport plays Nora Linde, a corporate lawyer (later prosecutor) whose family summer house anchors the series in the village of Sandhamn at the eastern edge of the Stockholm archipelago; Jakob Cedergren and later Tomas Norström have played the homicide detective Thomas Andreasson at her side. The series is shot largely on location in Sandhamn — a real village of fewer than a hundred year-round residents — and the relationship between the cases and the place has driven a substantial domestic tourism economy around it, comparable to the Ystad effect of the Mankell Wallander books.

Sten's novels have sold over six million copies in more than twenty languages, and the television series is now broadcast in more than seventy territories. It is one of the most reliably successful exports of the contemporary Swedish television industry.
