Gomorrah: The Origins

Marco D'Amore played Ciro Di Marzio across all five seasons of Gomorra and directed the 2019 spin-off film L'immortale; here he takes the lead directing role on the prequel, working from Roberto Saviano's creation. Le Origini went out on Sky Atlantic and NOW in January 2026, six episodes, and won the Golden Nymph for Best Creation at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival that summer.

The series rewinds to 1977 and to Pietro Savastano — the patriarch played by Fortunato Cerlino in the original — as a sixteen-year-old, with Luca Lubrano, a Neapolitan newcomer, in the part. The Naples it reconstructs is the one before the Camorra's drug economy: contraband cigarettes off the boats, a city of shacks and building sites, the Nuova Camorra Organizzata not yet formed. Familiar names appear in embryo, including the young Annalisa who will become Scianel, though the series is careful to make them people first and references second.

Critics received it as a genuine extension rather than a cash-in, praising Lubrano's restraint and a production design that resists nostalgia for the period. It sits alongside the parent show, L'immortale and Suburra in the run of Italian crime television that has done more than anything else in the last decade to shape how the country's underworld is dramatised — and a second season has already been announced.
